Charles Kuralt (1934–1997)
Charles Kuralt gave television journalism a more personal touch with his “On the Road” series for the CBS Evening News, where he profiled everyday Americans along backroads and small towns. At 25, he had already become CBS’s youngest news correspondent, and he later created Sunday Morning, which he hosted for fifteen years. His storytelling won him three Peabody Awards and an Emmy, cementing his place as a chronicler of American life.
