Sammy Davis, Jr. (1925 – 1990)
Sammy Davis, Jr. was a Black American singer and entertainer who helped break racial barriers in the entertainment industry. He began his career touring with the Will Mastin Trio before achieving success on Broadway and in Hollywood. Davis starred in films like Ocean’s 11 (1960) and recorded the hit song The Candyman in 1972. Throughout his career, he received numerous awards, including an Emmy, and became a Kennedy Center Honoree in 1987.
