Billie Jean King (1943– )
Billie Jean King, a former world No. 1, won 39 Grand Slam titles and became internationally known after defeating Bobby Riggs in the 1973 “Battle of the Sexes.” She founded the Women’s Tennis Association and the Women’s Sports Foundation, advancing the position of women in professional athletics.
