Lady Bird Johnson, the wife of President Lyndon B. Johnson, served as First Lady of the United States from 1963 to 1969. She left a lasting impact on American history through her advocacy for the Highway Beautification Act of 1965, which regulated highway signage and promoted the planting of wildflowers. This initiative reflected her dedication to preserving the beauty of the American landscape. Her contributions were honored with the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 1977 and the Congressional Gold Medal in 1984.
