Jack Lemmon (1925–2001)
Jack Lemmon won two Academy Awards—for Mister Roberts (1955) and Save the Tiger (1973)—and became one of Hollywood’s most celebrated actors. His range shone in classics like Some Like It Hot (1959), The Apartment (1960), and Days of Wine and Roses (1962), where he moved between comedy and drama. Lemmon shared a legendary screen partnership with Walter Matthau, appearing together in ten films, including The Odd Couple (1968) and Grumpy Old Men(1993). His career earned eight Academy Award nominations, multiple Golden Globes, and two Emmy Awards for later television roles. In 1988 he was honored with the American Film Institute’s Lifetime Achievement Award, cementing his place as one of the most versatile and beloved actors of the 20th century.
